Scope and Tracks

The Programme Committee of the SETAC Europe 36th Annual Meeting is committed to putting together a not-to-be-missed conference with an exciting scientific programme addressing the overarching theme “Embrace the outlier. In science, regulations and networks.”

This conference theme emphasises that outliers are matters of perspective. In science, unexpected, outlying data may point to unknown, yet potentially interesting phenomena that could lead to innovative insights and understanding. In some regulatory arenas, recent discussions have focused on the inclusion of new, non-standard studies and results. In this view, risk assessment should include the latest scientific insights, even though these may not necessarily completely rely on standardised studies or existing guidance. In networks, outlying opinions and perspectives may be very essential to broadening discussions and open-minded points of view.

The meeting's theme aims to challenge the SETAC community to acknowledge outliers and value their potential merits, while at the same time maintaining the highest scientific practices that are transparent and reproducible. Potential session chairs are encouraged to elaborate on less prevailing issues within their fields, while the use and inclusion of non-standard methods and approaches may be addressed in more regulatory-oriented sessions.

This theme strives to inspire and equip participants with a broad mindset, knowledge and tools needed to drive meaningful change, ensuring a safer and more sustainable future and provide new ideas for testing the advancements in practical case studies across all stakeholder groups, including those not usually targeted, to derive ‘lessons learned’ and showcase success stories.

An overview of our contributions will follow as soon as available.
