Dagobert Heijerick graduated as Master of Science in Engineering (Environmental Technology) at Ghent University in 1994, and also obtained a degree in Environmental Sciences and Technologies at the same institute in 1995. At Ghent University (1996-2002) he was primarily responsible for several research projects related to metal toxicity, bioavailability and the development of bioavailability models for metals. At ARCHE Dagobert Heijerick is lead scientist involved in risk assessments of metals (monitoring data and effects assessment) and actively participated in the development of bioavailability models for site-specific risk assessments.

Koen Oorts (Senior Project Scientist)

E: koen.oorts@arche-consulting.be

T: +32 16 28 49 01

Dr. Koen Oorts worked previously for more than 10 years at the Laboratory for Soil and Water management (Catholic University of Leuven, KUL) internationally recognized in the field of soil chemistry and soil ecotoxicology. He obtained his PhD degree on the study of the effect of soil organic matter dynamics on the changes in cation exchange capacity and pH buffering capacity of highly weathered soils. His postdoc research was focussed on the bioavailability and toxicity of metals in soils. At ARCHE his main expertise area comprises the development and application of predictive models for bioavailability and toxicity of metals in soils and fate and behavior of metals in the environment. Currently, he is also responsible for the general management of several metal related REACH dossiers.

An Ghekiere (Senior Project Scientist)

An Ghekiere graduated as Master of Biochemistry in 2001 and obtained her PhD in Bio-engineering on endocrine disruption in invertebrates at Ghent University (Belgium) in 2006. From 2002 until 2010 she worked on projects (ENDIS-RISKS and INRAM) that assess the risk of micropollutants in estuary and marine environments. At ARCHE her expertise is situated in the field of risk assessment (mainly effects assessment) of organic compounds.

Federica Iaccino (Senior Project Scientist)

Federica Iaccino graduated as Master Environmental Engineering at Polytechnic University of Turin (Italy): her thesis aimed at validating the use of specific aquatic model to assess soil ecotoxicity (RIVM, The Netherlands). She moved to Belgium to gain experience at European level and worked as environmental consultant in the automotive sector, in the framework of alternative fuels and car emissions directives. In 2007 she further improved her scientific expertise at the European Master in Risk Assessment and Risk Analysis (University of Milan, Italy): her thesis focused on the development of high quality database for fish bioconcentration factor, in order to enable analyses on alternative non-animal testing methods for deriving BCF data such as (Q)SAR models (EURAS, Belgium). Her main tasks at ARCHE are scientific and regulatory support for the implementation of chemical regulations.
